Tour Highlight – This tour combines the best of Ethiopia’s historical sites and scenery. The highlights includes the island monasteries that decorate Lake Tana like emeralds in pool of gold, the mighty Blue Nile Falls the Castles of Gondar- “African Camelot”, the magnificent Rock Hewn Churches of Lalibela, the great Stelae of Axum, St. Mary of Zion church- where the original Arc of the Covenant housed in, the fabled Queen of Sheba ruined palace, Temple of Yeha, the remarkable rock churches of Tigray. By driving from point to point guests have a chance to see some of the Ethiopian countryside as well as observe the local “way of life” as you drive through the towns and villages and you will mainly visit the famous Blue Nile and Tekeze rivers gorge, the breathtaking land scape of Simien Mountain National Park the Amhara, Oromo and Tigray tribal villages.

Day 1: Arrive in Addis Ababa

Arrive in Addis AbabaBole International Airport and meet your Guide then transfer to the Hotel for check-in. There is a big choice of good hotels available in Addis Ababa. Overnight hotel

Day 2: Addis Ababa City tour and Sightseeing

In the morning visit the National Museum, the Trinity Cathedral, the last resting place of Emperor Haile Selassie I and the Ethnological Museum. Have lunch in a beautiful restaurant. In the afternoon drive to Entoto Mountains, the panoramic view of the city, visit St. George Cathedral and Merkato, the largest open Market in East Africa. Overnight hotel

Day 3: Bahir Dar

After breakfast drive 565km to the town of Bahir Dar, set at an altitude of 1830m on the southern shore of Lake Tana. Passing by Mount Entoto through the Sululta plain en route visit the monastery of Debre Libanos and proceed your drive through the spectacular scenery of the Blue Nile Gorge. Overnight hotel

Day 4: Blue Nile Waterfalls and Lake Tana

In the morning make a boat trip on Lake Tana, to visit the monasteries of Ura Kidane Meheret, Kibran Gebriel and Azoa Mariam. Ura Kidane Mehiret and Kibran Gabriel host important religious icons from the 16th century and interesting museums. Azoa Mariam is also known for its mural paintings. In the afternoon drive to visit the majesty Blue Nile Falls around 33 km from the town, locally known as “Tiss Issat” (smoke of fire) return to the city have dinner. Overnight hotel

Day 5: Gondar Site Seeing

After breakfast drive(180 km) to the town of Gondar through the Fogera plain and mountains of Addis Zemen. Check-in to hotel and have lunch. In the afternoon, site seeing in Gondar which includes the royal enclosure which contains several stone-built castles of different emperors. The most impressive building is Fasilidas castle. He was one of the Gondarin Emperor established Gondar as a powerful cultural and religious center. After that you will visit the bath of Fasil, filled with water once a year for the Timket celebration and Debre Berhan Selassie church (Light of the Trinity) decorated with beautiful frescos and paintings. Day 6: Semien Mountain National Park

After breakfast drive(122 km) to Simien Mountain National Park and check in the Lodge, in the late afternoon you will have a hiking around the lodge to see the endemic Gelada Baboon and the breathtaking landscape. Overnight hotel

Day 7: Axum

Drive (280 km) to the northern Ethiopia ancient city of Axum, regarded as the cradle of Ethiopian culture and religion, passing through the chains of the Simien Mountains and the Tekeze River Valley. Overnight hotel

Day 8: Axum site seeing

Visit the famous stelae granite monoliths dating from pre-Christian times, decorated with symbolic engravings. See the churches of Saint Mary of Zion, where the Original Ark of the Covenant is housed and its famous museum which contain the crowns of Ethiopian kings and other treasures, the tomb of King Kaleb and Gebre Meskel, Queen of Sheba Palace and the Axum Museum, revealing many of the archeological findings and providing information about the glorious past of the city. Day 9: Geralhta

After breakfast drive to Geralhta through the escarpments of Adwa Mountains & Scenic landscapes en route visit the 6th century B.C Pre-Christian Temple of Yeha and the oldest church of Debre Damo Monastery. Overnight Lodge

Day 10: Mekelle

Drive to Mekelle en route visit the famous rock hewn churches of Tigray Abrha, Atsbha and Wukero Cherkos Rock Hewn Church. Overnight hotel

Day 11: Lalibela

Drive to Lalibela through dramatic highland scenery. Lalibela, Perched at an altitude of 2630 m, among wild craggy mountains and vast rocky escarpments, Lalibela is a strikingly singular town famed for its 11 rock-hewn churches excavated from granite rock at the end of the 12th century. Overnight hotel

Day 12: Lalibela site seeing

In the mourning visit the northern group of churches and Bet Giyorgis, built after St. George appeared in the dream of King Lalibela. It displays the finest architecture in a good state of preservation. Each church (“Bet”) has a unique architectural style. All are superbly carved and most of them are decorated with well-preserved paintings. The northern group of churches includes Bet Medehane Alem is the largest monolithic rock-hewn church in the world, supported by 72 pillars. Through a short tunnel you pass on to Bet Mariam. Bet Golgotha and Bet Mikael contain many important religious items. In the afternoon drive 7 km from the town to visit the cave church of Naakuto Laab, built inside a natural cave.

Day 13: Yemerhana Kirstos

After breakfast; Excursion to the cave church called Yemerhana Kirstos (42 km from Lalibela). This Church has been constructed by King Yemerhana Kirstos during the13th Century. In the church, there are more than 5000 thousand dead human skeletons lying without any coverage for the past 700 years. They are supposed to be pilgrimages from Syria, Egypt and Ethiopia. The murals on the dark walls of the church, the year round spring water - descending from the top of the church and the forest around are very impressive and worthy to be visited. In the afternoon you will Visit the eastern group of rock churches of Lalibela. Bet Amanuel is one of the most ingeniously carved churches in Ethiopia in the Axumite style. Bet Merkorios has wonderful paintings dating back to the 15th century. Also see Bet Abba Libanos and Bet Gebriel- Rafael. They hosted the royal family before becoming churches. Overnight hotel

Day 14: Kombolcha

Drive (325km) to the town of Kombolcha passing through the breathtaking landscape of Yeju Wodela Delanta en route visit Hayk Istifanos Monastery, dedicated to St. Stephanie. Overnight hotel

Day 15: Addis Ababa

After breakfast drive (374 km) to Addis Ababa through Shoan plateau and en route short stop at “Gemasa Gedel” to enjoy the view and to see the separation land marks of the north western highlands and the Ethiopian Rift valley as well as you can see the endemic Gelada Baboon. In the evening you will have a traditional fare well dinner in the Traditional restaurant. Overnight hotel or Departure
